Frankfurt Welcomes Feuerman With Solo Exhibition At Galerie Hübner & Hübner by Carole Feuerman

Germany welcomes Carole Feuerman this fall with a solo exhibition at Galerie Hübner & Hübner. Carole’s exhibition will open October 9, 2015 and run through November 11, 2015. Galerie Hübner & Hübner exhibits international and national artists, and resides in the Frankfurt, Rhein Main region. Grueneburgweg 71 D -60323 Frankfurt / Main http://www.galerie-huebner.de/en/exhibitions/current.

Carole Feuerman has been a pioneer in the hyper-realist art movement since its inception in the 1960s and has been perfecting the movement ever since. Feuerman’s solo exhibition provides viewers the opportunity to see Carole’s progression into one of the most influential figures in the hyperrealist movement. The exhibition chronicles Carole’s career, presenting sculptures from her first ever solo exhibition to the present day. For example, Red Tie (1965) a sculpture from Carole’s solo exhibition in Fort Worth, Texas called Rated X, juxtaposes the sweet General’s Twin (2009), featuring a young girl swimmer blossoming into adolescence.

Beach With Goggles (2011) is another youthful swimmer featured in the show. This rosy cheeked girl in a poka-dot suit looks to be relaxing after a long swim. Swimmers have been a main theme throughout Feuerman’s career, therefore, they are prominently represented within the exhibition. Due to the craftsmanship and hyper-realist quality of every sculpture one innately strives to apply a narrative or personality to each piece. For example, one can easily imagine Kendall Island (2014) in her lustrous black cap and sleek crisscross suit resting right after diving practice.

Even tabletop pieces are quite easy to envision as living figures. A peaceful Miniature Serena (2013) floats along with her inner-tube, as she rests on a tabletop. Meanwhile, Miniature Quan (2013)  precariously balances on a sphere creating a dichotomy between the relaxed swimmer and the pressure being applied to the sphere. Furthermore, it is a representation of the Buddhist goddess Quan and her burden of protecting the world. Their is a feeling of power, presence, and strength reflected in the emotion and youthful quality in each piece, a sense that frequently flickers and fades with age. Malibu (2012) a young swimmer featured in the exhibit can easily be seen effortlessly ‘breaking through’ the water. Where do readers imagine Carole’s sculptures?

Monumental Shower by Carole Feuerman

by Kelsey Zalimeni

Carole Feuerman's 'Monumental Shower' pulls the private and public into tension.  An intimate moment such as this is captured in hyperrealistic fashion, blown up in scale and displayed for all to see. Is the bather proud in her exposure? Unaware of her voyeurs? In either case, 'Monumental Shower' succeeds to intrigue and entice.

The figure's natural, luxurious pose is saturated with enjoyment.  Warm drops of shower water cascade down the body.  Her confidence and graceful posture exude two pillars of Feuerman's work, making the piece another great gesture toward the artist's ideals.

Breakthrough by Carole Feuerman

by Kelsey Zalimeni

In today's manic, rushing society, humans have grown desensitized to stimuli, caring only to speed through their busy day and make it home at the end. Carole Feuerman's 'Nude Coming Through 14th Street'  asks how long it will take for New Yorkers to notice a nude woman coming through the wall of 14th Street's subway station at rush hour. This piece is an attempt to slow people down- to not only see, but to really look

Defying the laws of physics and social convention, this figure makes new the concept of individuality in total.  The woman is neither concerned with her nudity nor the gawking of passersby, literally planting herself in a private space as her front leads into the public.  An allusion to the fabled 'glass ceiling' can also be interpreted, as Carole uses the piece to illustrate her progressive mentality as a contemporary female artist.

Capri by Carole Feuerman

by Kelsey Zalimeni

Basking in the glimmering presence of Carole Feuerman's 'Capri' invites viewers to fully appreciate the skill and care of its execution.  While the dazzling Swarovski swim cap commands initial attention, the eye trickles slowly down the rest of the figure to delight in its detail and texture.

A rather content countenance gives way to a fitting leisurely pose, one hand casually hooked to the edge of her suit. The swimmer dons a brilliant cobalt one-piece with incredibly convincing texture and weight.  'Capri' symbolizes glamour, grace, leisure, and luxury.  She is both decadent and delicate, lavish yet natural- achieved through the juxtaposition of her relaxed, casual pose and the rich, sparkly materials she wears.

This featured piece is currently on display at Art Southampton from Thursday, July 24 to Monday, July 28.  If you are attending the event, be sure to stop by booth AS67 to see 'Capri' in person!

Poseidon by Carole Feuerman

by Kelsey Zalimeni

Carole Feuerman is now exhibiting her newest bronze sculpture, 'Poseidon', at Jim Kempner Fine Art in Chelsea, NYC.  The piece features a male's head with organic shapes of bronze water drops sliding off the surface. This unique look is achieved through a technique that Feuerman herself developed, called 'Painting with Fire.' The artist first conceived of the idea while traveling by plane in 1998, feeling moved to express the gorgeous natural patterns that she witnessed from her aerial vantage point.

Despite its detachment from the rest of the body, 'Poseidon' conveys a surge of momentum, as the viewer anticipates full emergence from below the surface. The scale of the piece in combination with the pedestal height contributes to its potency.
